Biography
Purnur Altay is an academic and writer. After completing her undergraduate studies in Turkiye, she moved to the United Kingdom to pursue her graduate coursework. Having witnessed the challenges international students face in their academic and social lives during her time at the University of York, she became an advocate of students’ rights and worked closely with the local and national policy makers as the leader of a charity for two consecutive years.
Purnur holds a certificate to teach and has been teaching the Turkish and English languages since 2012. She tailors her teaching according to the educational background of her students. She acknowledges that studying English Literature as an international student can be challenging at times. However, with the right tools, it can be turned into an advantage where you can make use of your cultural and literary knowledge and open up vast possibilities to bring a fresh and unique perspective to the field. She loves undertaking interdisciplinary research and is particularly interested in Turkish Literature and Rumi studies.
